Sonihull Products and specifications

Five control units — Duo, Quad, 06, 08 and Xtreme — sharing a common IP68 ultrasonic transducer (Ø76 × 75 mm)

Applications: Areas protected: hull, propulsion systems (propellers, thrusters, waterjets), rudders, sea chests, strainers and pipework, box/plate/shell-and-tube coolers, and freshwater generators. Vessel types listed by the manufacturer: tankers, cargo ships, cruise ships, naval vessels, support vessels, offshore and wind farm support vessels, anchor handlers, tugs, ferries, fishing vessels, pilot boats, coast guard vessels, superyachts and small cargo vessels. Limitations: preventive only; it cannot remove established hard fouling (surfaces must be cleaned before installation), and it is not suitable for wooden hulls.

Features

Features

Principle: the control unit emits multi-frequency ultrasound, creating low-energy non-inertial cavitation at wetted surfaces that inhibits biofilm formation

Transducers are mounted on the dry side, with no through-hull penetrations and usually no dry-docking required; installation on FRP sandwich structures requires individual assessment

Configuration assessed by vessel type, structure and areas to be protected (the manufacturer plans transducer positions and frequency settings from the vessel's drawings)

Fleet agreements: the manufacturer offers multi-vessel owners simplified procurement, volume discounts, standardized configurations and priority support

Notes

  • Transducers supplied as standard: Duo 2, Quad 4, 06 6, 08 8; Xtreme up to 16. The actual layout is evaluated according to vessel type, structure and the areas to be protected. The Duo is also known as the 02 and the Quad as the 04.
  • For the Duo, Quad, 06 and 08, AC power consumption is measured at 230 V AC and the maximum operating temperature is 40°C; the Xtreme draws 4–15 W on average and up to 36 W per transducer output.
  • The Duo switches AC voltage automatically; the 06 is switched manually, so check the switch position before installation.
  • UL and CE for the Duo are power-supply approvals, not system or performance certifications; ATEX covers the transducer for Zone 0 only (optional), and the control unit must be installed in a separate explosion-proof cabinet for Zone 1/2; BV, RRR and UL + C-UL for the Xtreme are approvals of the enclosure (Rittal AE1045).
